TRNC Disabled Sports Federation was established in 1996 with a view to safeguard equal participation
of disabled people living in our country in the field of sports, to maintain their self-confidence and to further develop socially through sports. The level our federation and our team have reached in this period is highly-regarded and our Wheelchair Basketball Team competes in the 1st League of Turkey and
successfully represents our country and Turkey in the European Cups. Our disabled athletes compete in sports branches such as air gun shooting sports, table tennis, archery, swimming and athletics.
The effect of sports on the disabled is like magic. It is clearly observed that disabled individuals in any
sports group are at peace with themselves, have self-confidence and develop socially with their acquaintances. For this reason and its impact on the athletes, it is extremely important for our country and for our disabled individuals that the disabled sports are not subject to embargoes.
Wheelchair basketball is avery expensive sport in terms of materials and equipment. The chairs used by
the athletes are individually dimensioned and designed with special alloys. Therefore, these chairs carry a serious cost. Due to the economic problems experienced in recent years, the budget allocated to the Federation may only be sufficient to ensure the continuation of the league and it becomes almost
impossible to make these chairs for new athletes.
Within the scope of this project, we aim to have sports chairs made in their own sizes for our athletes aged 15 and 16 who have just started playing wheelchair basketball.
